Like the Loire river valley, the Val du Layon is known for its abundance of heritage and gastronomy. Ideally located in the heart of Anjou area, Saint-Lambert-du-Lattay is a privileged destination to discover the charms of the region.

 

The Loire valley castles, Terra Bottanica, Zoo of Doué-la-Fontaine, Puy du fou, Oriental garden of Molévrier and more are just few minutes away by car from the Val du Layon.

Val du Layon

Val du Layon is a new town composed of wine villages with 3 464 residents, located in the middle of Côteaux du Layon near Loire valley, an area labeled UNESCO. 700 hectares out of the 1 440 are exploited for the vines, managed by forty winemakers. 

The musts of Val du Layon

The Pont-Barré hillsides’s nature reserve

 

 

Located at 3 km, this hillsides overlooks the Layon valley, offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding vines. Their unique landforms made of slopes intersected by numerous small plateaus and rocky escarpments contribute in this panel of nature gifts. 

Pont-Barré battle

 

It happened from the 17 to the 19 of september 1793 during the first Vendée war. It ended with the victory of the Vendéens that repel the royal attack from Angers. The bridge is located 3km (1.9miles) from the camping. You can access to this historical relic and take a stroll along Layon river.  

Moulin Guérin 

 

The windmill, also called Marie-Angèle’s windmill, from it’s old owners. This windmill that lost it’s wings stopped working in the middle of the XIX century. A belvedere had been set up with a viewpoint indicator.You can gaze upon the Mauges plateau and the Layon valley.  

 Haute Guerche château

 

This is a XIII century ruins castle, 3km (1.9 miles) away from the campings. This is a must see to discover the history marked places in the area. (anjouhauteguerche.com) website in french only 

Saint-Aubin-de-Luigné’s presbitery

 

Build in the XVI century, reshuffled in the XVIII century, this presbitery is listed historical monuments in 1964. The cityhall now occupies the building as well as the library, village hall, meeting room and other.

Aviator René Gasnier’s memorial

 

Pioneer of the aviation, helped by his brother Pierre, he made a flying machine with his own two hands. In 1903, he perform a 500m flight, 5m above the ground of the Grand’Prée. Those mans brimming with audacity at that time, had been baptise « Daisy reaper ». This landmark made with granit have been build in 1923, to comemorate this achievement. 

Patrick Dewaere’s grave

 

This actor born in 1947, passed in 1982 is considered one of the brillantest of his time. His acting is known for being natural yet exact and truth in his face expressions. 

A wine-growing town

 

This town is located in the heart of the Layon’s hillsides. The villages are peppered with vineyards that produce Cabernet d’Anjou, Coteau du Layon,  Crémant de Loire (white), Anjou Rouge, Anjou Blanc and Rosé d’Anjou. You can visit most vineyards.
